Hockenheimring

Hockenheimring Baden-Württemberg

History of Hockenheimring

In 1930, Ernst Christ, founder of the Hockenheimring, had the idea to build a racing circuit. Back then, he was involved in motorsports only when stopping the times of other racers, but he was very enthusiastic about the sport.

After arranging his plan with the city of Hockenheim, in 1932, the building of the circuit began. In the same year, the first motorcycle race was held at Hockenheimring.

In the years to follow, Hockenheimring was continously improved to keep up with vehicles becoming faster and faster.

Then, in1970, a whole 100.000 attendees,  watched the first Formula 1 race held at Hockenheimring.

Because of its growing popularity, Hockenheimring was renewed in 2002. While the track shrank by around two kilometers, the capacity for visitors was upped from 83.000 to 120000.

Today, Hockenheimring offers highlights for Motorsport Fans year round: the biggest Drag-Race Event in Europe, NitrOlympiX, Formula 1 races, DTM, ADAC GT Masters, Bosch Hockenheim Historic and many more.

Aside from phenomenal races, Hockenheimring is home to many other projects and events: Manycar manufacturers, e.g. Porsche, use it to test and improve their vehicles in extreme conditions.

Even as a visitor, you have the possibility to drive around the circuit in the so-called Race Taxi, or with your own verhicle.

What is more, the Museum for Motor Sport is opened for visitors year round.

Apart from motorsports, there is still plenty to see at Hockenheimring. Music fans will be happy to visit during the impressive concerts held at Hockenheimring, especially when it comes to the genre of rock. Huge celebrities like Metallica, Michael Jackson and the Rolling Stones have performed here.
